We are bringing together astronomy establishments from across Scotland to coordinate our plans.

Light pollution has always been an issue for our niche hobbies that involve looking to the cosmos since we started irresponsibly utilising lighting, but we aren’t just doing this for our own interests; we are asking for the benefits of the environment, public spending, and public health.

Light pollution can affect sleep leading to insomnia and sleep deprivation, this can then lead to depression. Light pollution also impacts our metabolic cycles and can even cause certain cancers. This is why change needs to happen.

Scotland is one of if not the last country in Europe to house true dark sky locations, from pristine Bortle 1 sites like the Isle of Rum or Skye, to slightly more light polluted sites such as the Cairngorms, Galloway Forest, and Kielder. These are parts of our heritage worth protecting, could you even imagine how many people would come from all across the globe just to experience Scotland, with light pollution minimalised?
